It’s been awhile since I shared people and things I love. I’m excited for this one. Ya’ll know I’m always focused on community and you may have noticed I talk a lot about finding the wrong people. Well, I’ve noticed too 🤣 and lately I’ve been on the hunt for authentic and whimsical people to surround myself with.
I will share briefly what I look for in people to follow, recommend and partake in their offerings - they need to be someone who has overcome something. I don’t have time for someone who doesn’t understand what it’s like to be me or someone who hasn’t experienced “the trenches”. Don’t gaze upon me from your ivory tower and tell me what it’s like to be me. Just don’t. Give me people who are down here with the rest of us and have fought some battles.
A few months ago, when I was looking for new books on Amazon, I fell down a rabbit hole that lead me to author Mandi Em. The book I found is called Feral Self Care: 100 Ways to Liberate and Celebrate Your Messy, Wild and Untamed Self. She has two other books as well: Witchy Therapy: Your Guide to Banishing Bullsh*t and Invoking Your Inner Power and Happy Witch: Activities, Spells, and Rituals to Calm the Chaos and Find Your Joy. The next book on my To Buy List is the Happy Witch.
I looked Mandi up on Instagram and started following her. Here’s what I love about her - she is honest and authentic AF. She is navigating an online business world where there are certain approved ways of doing things and certain approved ways of showing up and she is giving all of that the middle finger. Her website and Instagram handle is Healing for Hot Messes. I love that she is taking back the power of the phrase “hot mess”. I love when people take ownership of something that society and culture deems terrible and bad and then wear it like a crown. That’s taking back your power!
She describes herself as an “author and wellness witch that specializes in bullsh*t-free wellness and personal growth.” … “Based on her own lived experiences with fuckery such as self-hate, eating disorders, mental illness, poor choices and chronic illness, Mandi feels very called to help others in their healing. As a magical empowerment mentor and chaotic creator, she calls in those who seek healing through her bullsh*t-free, compassionate voice.”
She posts reels and videos to her stories often so you can check her out on Instagram and Facebook, and even on YouTube. I am part of her Hot Mess Coven membership (it’s currently priced at only $7 a month) and I am enjoying it. I have been a member for about 2 months now, I think. She does FB lives in her membership where she answers questions and talks about things like dreamwork and shadow work. I find her content and work with dreams very interesting. I have also taken her workshop about dismantling your narrative and reframing it to something more empowering. It’s called Unf*ck the Narrative and you can find it here along with other courses. She has other workshops and classes here.
What I find most refreshing about her is that she shows up and works through whatever is happening in her life and in her mind, in real time, which is exactly how I roll, only she does it in a video and I hide behind a newsletter. :) She is smart, well read and knows what’s what. She also has a newsletter called The Hex Files where she shares whatever has captured her attention at the moment. It is published with the moon cycle.
She is a very curious person and those are my most favorite types of people. She entertains conspiracy theories to understand them and gets fascinated with the weird and whimsical. In Human Design, we are told to follow the things that fascinate us because we don’t know where that rabbit hole will take us - Mandi is great at doing just that. While I don’t identify as a hot mess or enjoy conspiracy theories, I love the energy of curious people and I find her information and workshops to be very useful. So, if you are going to check her out, keep in mind that we don’t have to buy the whole pot of tea, we can just take a cup.
I am going to sign up for her Delusionally Sexy program. She used to run it as a live program and has, for the first time, made it available as a self-paced program. The program is about confidence and getting comfortable in your skin. And that’s always work I can benefit from. She has a discount code running right now INBOXLOVE to get 20% off. This is not an affiliate post. I get nothing if you sign up for anything she offers.
She also does energy readings, which sound like a lot of fun. I haven’t tried one yet. I am sharing this at the same time I am getting to know her work myself.
Going back to where we started, I have noticed that I tend to fall in with the wrong people in friendships and last year I decided to change that. Since then I have discovered several people who are whimsical and fun and who don’t take life or themselves too seriously. I think at first when we want to make changes to our community, we need to see that these people that we are looking for exist at all, so we find them online, and then once we recognize and build an image of what we are looking for or want, we can find them in our local communities. And, sometimes online people become friends.
I also want to say that I thought about not sharing this resource and I thought about not telling her that I was doing it, but in the end, I wanted to share the discount code and I needed to know if it was ok or just for members to use. I hesitated to reach out because only about 19 people out of 42 subscribers even open my emails. And, only about 50 of the 238 people who follow me online even see my posts That is a very small number and if I am going to tell someone I am sharing their work, is 19 people “good enough”? Is my tiny community big enough? Those things run through my mind all the time. All the time. I am not immune. And I wrote in the email to her that my community is small but very impactful and I really do believe that. My favorite saying these days is “Do what you can, where you can, with the resources you have available” There is no such thing as too small of a community or too small of a service or donation to offer. Every little ripple we send out there into the world, combines with every one else’s little ripples and we can create a wave of change.
If you check out her books or follow her online, let me know. I love knowing what we all have in common.
And, please do share this post with anyone you think could benefit from Mandi’s work or her books, or just to follow her on social media. I would love if her community grew and her work reached more people.
Thanks for sharing! I'll check her out. It's taken a lot of work on myself, shadow work & searching for answers in many unique ways to get through the past 4 years of my own "hot mess". I'm always looking for people that may have open & honest answers that dont have to conform to society & may apply to my own life as well.
Thank you for sharing Mindy! I’ve been checking out her different socials today and I agree, I love her energy!
