I’m excited to bring this mini course to you. I have had a lot of fun going through the first 3 months of the course, myself. And, I hope you connect with your ancestors in a way that heals your ancestral line and you learn something new about yourself.
This month we prepare for the course by practicing connecting with our ancestors using tarot cards. Why tarot cards? I don’t know. I could use the practice in interpreting them and they do have all we need to play this game with Spirit. They have people cards - the Court cards. Then you have major life themes - Major Arcana and the everyday uses of magic - the Minor Arcana. You can, of course, use whatever you like. This is your practice and your ancestral experience. Do what you want. Make changes or adjustments where ever you want.
Here is what I recommend you have for this entire series:
A tarot deck you like or really connect with. It can be specific to your heritage or just a theme you like. I recommend a Ryder-Waite deck, or at least one that follows this system, but that’s only because that’s my knowledge base and if you need help with the project, it will be easier if I know the card system.
A pendulum. This is good for work in trying to clarify or pinpoint information such as gender and place of origin of the ancestor you are working with. On a piece of paper or cardstock, you can create a pendulum board for figuring out whatever you want to know about.
Blank index cards for creating supplementary cards.
A notebook for messy note taking and then a fancy notebook or journal to be your Grimoire.
Oracle cards to help you clarify information you receive.
Prepare to Connect
Shuffle the deck well. I have two options for choosing your first card.
Option 1: You can separate the tarot cards into 3 piles – Major Arcana, Minor Arcana and Court cards. Or,
Option 2: You can take cards off the top of the deck until you get the needed card. For example, you can keep taking cards off the top of the deck until you pull a Court card, or Major Arcana.
Option 1 is a good choice, but you will have to shuffle your deck very well to re-integrate all of the cards. That can be a lot work. It’s up to you.
Next, think about what you want an ancestor to help you with. Remember that Spirit responds to our questions or seeking energy. And questions are what keep that energy moving and flowing.
I asked for help with creating this course and creating the momentum and excitement for it. One student asked for help in building a tattoo business and another asked for help with relationships. The more detailed the question or intent, the better the results. The student asking for help with relationships did not choose a particular relationship and did not specify what she wanted to change about them. That’s tough to measure at the end of the month - but choose an issue that you realy want help with and don’t listen to my nitpicking. But, don’t make it a yes or no question.
